Hello lovelies! With the new school year rapidly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about college shopping and items you will need for your new dorm room or apartment! I already created a master list with everything you will need to buy for your college dorm, but today I decided to discuss a few key items that often go overlooked in the entire move-in process: cleaning supplies. Cleaning is never a ‘fun’ activity, but it’s pretty necessary if you want to have a nice, clean place to live and you have to worry about things like security deposits and service fees! Therefore, you are going to want to bring a few supplies with you to college to make the cleaning process possible. Space and money is a huge factor in what you buy, so I’ve narrowed that list down to 4 useful, practical, and versatile items that you need to have with you come fall! Here are 4 cleaning supplies that every dorm room needs!
1. Disinfecting Wipes
Wipes are basically your go-to for cleaning – they can take care of accidental spills and stains as well as clean surfaces. Chances are you will end up using these often, so don’t be afraid to stock up (for cheap). My suggestions? Avoid name brands like Clorox and Lysol and find your store’s local brand. It’ll work just as well as the name brands, but often come $2-5 dollars cheaper.
2. Paper towels
Paper towels can help clean up spills and dry things up. They can also double as napkins, saving you the extra expense and packing space of added supplies.
3. Dish soap
Dish soap is a lot more versatile than people realize. Aside from washing dishes, it can also be used to clean other supplies that contain mild stains or grime. Invest in a cheap and reliable brand, and you will be set for the rest of the school year!
Lastly, having a mini-vacuum handy can be an absolute lifesaver. Depending on your university’s dorm resources, you might already have access to a vacuum via your residence hall desk (in which case, forgo buying your own). However, if you don’t have those resources, I would highly suggest getting one! Your dorm room is small, so don’t buy a normal-sized vacuum (you really don’t need it!). Instead, invest in a small hand vacuum that can be used to pick up crumbs and debris from your bed, couch/chairs, and the floor, while still conserving space in your tiny room.
With these four items, you will be well on your way to a clean and enjoyable college dorm room experience! Cleaning may not be fun, but it doesn’t have to be difficult! Choose supplies that are cheap and can be used in multiple ways. This way, you can conserve packing space while still keeping all of the items you need to have an amazing school year!
