Hello lovelies! Today I’m back to share with you some advice about housing during your time in college. As an incoming freshman or a more settled sophomore, you are probably wondering what all of your options are and if you should head directly into an apartment lease or stay on campus in the university-provided dorms. Apartment life is amazing (I am currently in one right now!), but I think that, for freshman and sophomores especially, there are many benefits to living in the dorms that you should consider when making your final decision. So, without further ado, here are five reasons to live on campus in college!

1. It’s a great place to meet friends

Coming onto campus your freshman year, you probably won’t know anyone. During the first few weeks, your dorm is the #1 way to meet new friends with people who are in the exact same life situation as you are. For some people, these friendships eventually fade away as you grow older and experience more of college life. For others, the people they met freshman year are the ones that are still with them, even to this day 🙂

2. Convenience, convenience, convenience!

Your university residence halls do come with some pretty sweet amenities – cleaning services, extra safety precautions, and (probably) a cafeteria or dining hall where you can eat for a reduced rate. Plus, the dorms are directly on campus, which means a shorter walk to classes AND a little extra sleeping time in the morning! Not bad for a newbie college student!

3. Events and tons of free stuff

Your dorm will hold different events throughout the year, which gives you more opportunities to meet people and get free food and other items! When I lived in the dorms, I got to see a new movie for free, go to the zoo, and decorate cupcakes!

4. Less responsibility than #adulting

If you don’t feel quite like an adult yet, that’s okay. Staying in the dorms means you don’t have to take bigger steps to adulthood – such as paying bills and maintaining an apartment – just yet. It gives you a little time to adjust to college while still holding onto things that are familiar.

5. A once-in-a-lifetime experience

Choosing the dorms your freshman year (and possibly beyond) will give you another amazing memory to add to your “college years” collection. You’re never going to be able to get these years back – or live in a dorm again after college. Live in the moment and enjoy all the craziness and the fun, wonderful experiences that dorm life provides 🙂
