Hello lovelies, and welcome all high school students! Today I am writing a blog post specifically with you in mind, sharing some insight and advice I wish I had heard before coming to college waaayyy back in the Fall of 2014. College can seem like a scary place, especially when you are an 18-year-old recent high school graduate. But I promise you that you will have an absolutely amazing time in college, and that it will be a time for you to mature, grow, and have a lot of fun 🙂 Read on for a few tips on how to prepare for college! (Note: I may make a future post on this topic with more tips, so stay tuned!)
Expect the unexpected
College is a time for you to grow and change as a person. It’s okay to come in with expectations and goals for how your college years are going to play out, but don’t let yourself be disappointed if you end up taking a path you weren’t expecting.
Don’t spend all your time in college just caring about academics! Join a club or student org, find an internship or job on campus, and explore your campus community! Don’t miss out on all the opportunities your university provides, and make every moment count!
Take challenging classes and gain insight into alternative perspectives outside your own. Learn about other people’s experiences and beliefs, and challenge yourself to understand where they are coming from. Don’t be afraid to change who you are or what you believe in the process – you will mature a lot in college, and it’s all just part of the process.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! This is what your advisers and professors are for! Get help as soon as you need it.
Learn to manage your time well
Time management is such a key part of balancing work + college life. Polish those skills and make a planner your new best friend!
Don’t be scared
I know college can seem scary, especially as a new student just coming in. But don’t be scared! College is really whatever you make it, so make it great! And remember: a positive attitude will take you far!
