Hello lovelies! Today I am back to share some advice on all of the things that you absolutely should be doing this summer! This year, you worked hard to succeed in college, and deserve the break that summer provides. However, summer can’t be all about fun and games – there are definitely still things you should be doing to advance your academic and professional goals! Read on to learn about the 10 things you should do this summer.

Get a summer internship or job

Improve your resume by adding on a relevant new job or internship experience! If you don’t already have a position, it’s not too late – some companies are still looking for summer workers through to the beginning of June!

Add onto your professional network by reaching out to professionals in your field or connecting further with people you already know. Update your LinkedIn account (or create one if you don’t have one already!) and start researching people and companies to know.

Summer should be a time of new experiences, so take a break and travel as much as you can. Plan a road trip with your friends or take a family vacation abroad!

Find a new hobby

Improve yourself by gaining new skills and finding new interests. Try something that you aren’t sure you will like – or go out and do something you have always wanted to do! Attend a cooking class or go rock climbing… the sky is the limit!

Update your resume

Consider updating and enhancing your resume with a fresh look and feel. Have a new pair of eyes glance over it and give advice on what is working and what is not. Make sure all your experience is front and center and that it’s correct!

Get letters of recommendation

Reach out to your favorite professors or your former employers and ask for letters of recommendation. Having these connections and points of reference can be crucial in getting that next job, so make sure to choose wisely on who can actually speak on your behalf.

Get cultured

Take classes to learn a new language, visit art or history museums, attend a play, etc, etc… break outside your comfort zone and try new cultural experiences.

Catch up on your reading list

Now that you (presumably) have more free time on your hands, it’s time to finally catch up on your list of books to read. Reading is good for the mind and can be incredibly relaxing and fun, so spread out a blanket on the beach and get reading! 🙂

Prepare for the new school year

Begin preparing for your next college year as early as possible. Start creating a packing list of everything you need and buy the items you don’t already have. You’ll save yourself a ton of stress and last minute shopping endeavors by doing so!

Enjoy every moment

While there’s plenty of productive things to do this summer, I think the number one thing you need to do is to simply enjoy your time. Wherever you are this summer, and whatever you are doing, make sure to step back and just enjoy where you are and who you are with. Don’t get caught up in the stress and busyness that plagues us college students during the school year – summer is a time to shed that worry and just be yourself.
