Hello lovelies! If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you know that – first and foremost – I think of college as an incredible learning experience, in more ways than one. College is a time to grow as a person, determine what you want out of life, and gain the skills and knowledge to make it all happen. At the end of the day, college is whatever you make out of it. Here are five of the things I think you should do in college to better yourself – and get the most you can out of the experience.

Gain perspective

Look outside yourself. Take the time to learn about other people’s perspectives, lifestyles, and experiences. Force yourself out of your small little ‘filter bubble’ and interact with people who you normally wouldn’t. Become a more informed citizen and try to understand differing viewpoints and decisions.

Volunteering is such a powerful way to both help improve other people’s lives, as well as gain perspective and become more connected to your local college community. I absolutely recommend volunteering to any incoming freshman – it’s a rewarding experience that you will always remember.

Express yourself

Find someway to express yourself and share your creativity with the world. Take on a new hobby or skill or join a club/student organization that fits your interests. Don’t be afraid to break out of your comfort zone and be yourself!

Stay positive

When you’re dealing with the stress of classes and exams, calm down, rest your mind, and focus on being positive. Try to spend an entire day without complaining about ~anything.~ I promise you’ll feel amazing afterward!

Overcome your fears

Everyone is scared of something. Take little steps everyday in college to address your fears and work at overcoming them. Your fears don’t define you – you define them 🙂
