Oh, group projects…how we college students hate them… Just kidding, they don’t have to be as terrible as you think! Hello lovelies! Today I am back to share some secrets on how to survive and thrive in group projects!
Be ready to work with others
I know that you all have your own ideas about how the project should be done, but this is a group setting, which means you need to put on your collaborative hat and be open-minded. Be ready to listen and share your ideas while also considering the ideas of your group members.
Consider creating a Google Drive folder for all of your group work so that it is easily accessible and editable by all of your group members. Make sure you have contact information for everyone so that you can discuss your work together. Keep track of important deadlines and make sure everyone is on the same page about when things need to be completed.
Divide and conquer
One of the things I’ve learned in my group projects is that it often works best to divide up the workload and then come back together as a group at the end for editing and revision purposes. Brainstorm beforehand and make sure everyone has a firm grasp on what you are trying to accomplish.
Encourage, don’t criticize
Dealing with that one group member who consistently does less work than everyone else is frustrating, trust me, I get it. Strong communication and encouragement can go a long way at ensuring that everyone does the same amount of work and is a part of the group to produce the best work you all can accomplish.
Communicate and speak up!
If there are problems within your group, make sure you address them as soon as possible. Don’t be afraid to speak up if you disagree with how things are moving forward or need some clarification as to why someone thinks a certain way. Communication is the most important part of any group project, and it’s the one thing that will help you succeed in a way that nothing else can.
