Hello lovelies! Today I am here to talk about something near and dear to my heart: how to have an amazing time in college. I’ve spent a lot of time on here giving advice and sharing ideas on everything from resume building to reasons why Game of Thrones is an amazing show, but now I just want to take some time to step back and reflect on how exactly to do the whole college thing in general. When it comes down to it, four years isn’t very much time at all, and it can be very easy to get lost in the day-to-day trips to class and work and forget to think about what exactly you are doing there and what you want to get from your college experience. Ultimately, college is an experience that can – and should – change your life and change who you are as a person. It can be an incredibly difficult, stressful journey. But it can also be an amazing one. Here’s a few tips on how to enjoy – and make the most of – your short time in college.
Be brave, do things that scare you
Don’t let fear hold you back. Ever. Jump into a student org that you want to join but are a little nervous too. Sit next to someone sitting alone in the dining hall and start talking to them. Get to know your professors. Apply for a summer internship in a big city. Do anything and everything your heart desires. Challenge yourself to do things that scare you.
Find good friends
Good friends make everything better. Surround yourself with people who genuinely care about and want to see you succeed – both in academics and in life. Find people who are loyal, kind, and understanding. Hold onto these people for as long as possible.
Take care of yourself
Don’t forget to eat, sleep and exercise. Remember that your body is important and needs special care every once in a while. Learn how to cook, clean, do laundry, etc. Stop needing to rely on other people to take care of you or your problems. Become an independent person. This is, ultimately, what college is for I think.
Plan for the future – but live in the moment
Make preparations for the future – think about your career goals and chase your dreams. Start saving money now to repay your college loans. Be responsible. But, live in the moment. Don’t concentrate so heavily on the future that you forget about the here and now. Enjoy the little moments that make college so special and unique.
Focus on your academics
Remember that at the end of the day, college is school and your classes are important. Don’t just do the minimum work or put in the minimum amount of effort. Actively try to learn the material and become a smarter, more well-rounded individual.
Be smart about your decisions
College is a time for you to have fun, but remember your limits and don’t do anything that you don’t feel comfortable doing. If you choose to drink, drink responsibly. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you have to do something you don’t want. Avoid legal problems. Stay safe.
Believe in yourself
The number one step to succeeding in anything in life is to simply believe that you can do it. Believe in yourself – in your skills, your knowledge, and your ability to accomplish things.
