Hello lovelies! Today I am sharing a few tips and tricks on how to move forward with your apartment search. If you haven’t already found a place for next year yet, there is still plenty of time to find your next college dream home! Read on for how.

Do your research

The easiest way to search for apartments these days is online. Look up credible housing in your area and search for their websites for more information.

Look at all the options

Compile a list of all of the options. Consider using an Excel spreadsheet so that you can sort by price, location, amenities, etc. From this comparison and longer list, narrow your choices down to just a few really good options.

Ask questions

Contact the rental office of these top choices and learn as much information as you can. Schedule a tour for each of the places and ask questions while viewing. Do not sign a lease if you can’t answer all of these important questions.

Examine the apartments

While you are going on your tours, pay close attention to every detail. How well is the apartment managed? Are there leaks, peeling paint, weird smells? Is the apartment too hot or freezing cold? Does the building provide security? How much maintenance does the apartment need, and who will be responsible for it?

Read the entire lease carefully

This document is literally one of the most important documents you sign as a college student. Take the time to read it over and make sure you understand what you are responsible for and what your renter is providing. Make sure all of the things you were promised appear on the lease. Any agreements you made vocally should be written down in the lease as well.
