Hello lovelies! So today is my 21st birthday… so excited! 🙂 In honor of today, I’m sharing the 21 most important lessons I’ve learned during my 21 years of life. I hope you enjoy and have an amazing day!

1. Happiness is everything

You can own a ton of stuff and have a high-paying job, but if you aren’t happy with your life and who you are, then it doesn’t matter. Being happy is everything. Pursue the things that make you happy, and everything else will fall into place.

2. Actions speak louder than words

If someone tells you something, but they continuously do the exact opposite of what they say, believe their actions. Strive to be an incredible person – what you say is meaningless if you don’t back it up with actions.

3. It’s okay to cry

Sometimes you have to be sad in order to once again be happy. Crying and feeling pain is not a weakness. It is a sign of strength.

4. Love endlessly

Strive to open your heart and be a loving, compassionate soul. Our generation is told that being detached and uninterested is fun and cool, but that’s wrong. Love with all your heart. Go after your dreams. Be passionate. Live.

5. Start now

Stop telling yourself you will go after your dreams… tomorrow. Start today. It’s never too early – and it’s never too late. Your dreams are important and can come true, but only if you are willing to put in the work to make them so.

6. Be kind to the people you love

You never know how much time you will have with them – make sure they know how much you love them before it’s too late.

7. Take some time to yourself

Whenever you feel overwhelmed or stressed out, take a moment to just breathe and experience the moment. Take time to yourself and relax. You deserve it.

8. Nothing is impossible

So many times in life we tell ourselves or each other that our dreams are impossible or ridiculous. Don’t let doubt and fear keep you from the life you want to live.

9. Practice patience

Be patient with yourself, the people you love, and strangers. We’re all only human, we make mistakes, and that’s okay, too.

10. You are capable of so much more than you think

Whenever that inner voice turns on saying you can’t accomplish something, remember that you are strong and have a power to do so much more than what you think you can do.

11. Take chances

Stop living your life saying ‘no.’ Take a chance every once and a while and do something unexpected or extraordinary. These spontaneous moments are usually the very best we have.

12. Cherish every moment

Life goes way too fast. Cherish the time you do have with the people you love.

13. Honesty goes a long way

Stop lying to yourself and others. Being honest and upfront from the start is always the right thing to do.

14. Sometimes you will make a mistake

… and it’s okay. Admit your mistakes and work on fixing them.

15. Every step is a step

When you feel like you aren’t moving forward, or things are going too slow in your life, remember that each step forward is one step forward – you are just a little bit closer to your ultimate goals.

16. Loving yourself is necessary before loving someone else

Finding peace with who you are as a person and coming to love yourself is a long and sometimes difficult process. But if you don’t love yourself, truly and completely, you will never fully be able to love someone else. You need to find some personal peace and acceptance before you can be in a relationship.

17. Forgiving people is not a weakness

When someone hurts you, it is necessary to forgive them – not just for their sake, but for your own. Move on from the pain in your past and find a better future. It’s also okay to cut negative or hurtful people out of your life – some people just simply aren’t good for you, and that’s okay too.

18. When one door closes, another opens

Believe me when I say that the best is yet to come. Whether you believe in karma or just the universe itself, remember that one ending is simply a new beginning.

19. Your body, your life

You are the only person in charge of your life and your body. Do the things that make you comfortable, and never sacrifice yourself or your health for someone else’s needs.

20. Learn how to trust the right people

It’s okay to be guarded and be wary of trusting new people. But don’t let those fears stop you from putting your trust in the right people – the ones who have been with you through your best AND worst moments.

21. You have a lot left to learn

You’ve survived a lot so far, and learned many lessons. But there is still a lot left to learn, see, and do in life. Go out there and do it!
