Hello, lovelies! I hope you are having a wonderful day thus far! ūüôā Today I am sharing some advice on how you can quickly establish a routine in college that truly works for you. Routines are especially important in college because this is how you will be able to stay motivated and on task throughout the entire semester. Knowing when you will be working on something and for how long you will be doing so is key¬†to having a great school year. While finding¬†a routine¬†that works well for you may¬†seem like a complicated, daunting task, it definitely doesn’t have to be! Read on for¬†four tips on how to create a routine in college that works perfectly for you.

Take simple actions

The first step to turning something into a habit and making it part of your routine is to ease yourself into it every single day. If you want to start maximizing the productivity in your mornings, set your alarm 15 minutes earlier every morning¬†before gradually increasing the time you wake up. People aren’t very good at throwing themselves into new things, so this is why persistence and tiny little steps each day are the effective way to create a new routine.

Use your planner religiously

Having a planner that includes all of your important due dates, assignments, meetings, and life events will allow you to keep track of things better and then be able to schedule your daily life around these events. Once you know exactly what you need to be working on, it is a lot easier to plan out blocks of your day for these activities. Create a to-do list each day or a schedule that outlines exactly when you will be doing everything. Be as specific and detailed as possible!

Notice what is and isn’t working

You know yourself better than anyone. As you go through the day, notice any times that your schedule isn’t working right – like, for example, if you are consistently late for a class – and figure out ways to recalibrate your routine so that it meets these needs. Also notice the things that are working well – if you have found that studying at 1pm every Tuesday works great for you, keep doing this. Effective routines are about understanding yourself and building onto what works best for you. This may take some time to figure out, but if you keep working at it and pay attention to both the good and the bad parts of your routine, you will be able to manage.

Be flexible

Obviously, your routine needs to have a little bit of flexibility to it. This is college, after all, and s*** happens! ūüėȬ†Be the kind of person who is able to adapt to new needs and events that may pop up on the spot every once in a while. When something unexpected happens, you just need to run with it and make any changes to your schedule to¬†include the new event while not running out of time for any of the stuff you already scheduled.

By taking simple steps and making small changes everyday, you will be able to determine the best way to plan your day and create an effective routine for your life. College requires motivation, organization, and hard work, so taking the initiative to create a roadmap to success through a schedule will absolutely help!
